Historical Background
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Thrikkadeeri region was under the administrative domain of the Thrikkoduveli Devaswom. Today, the most prominent shrine in the area—the Munnurthi Temple—continues to function under this Devaswom.
Originally, the location was known as Thrikkoduveli, meaning "the land of the Thrikkoduveli Devaswom." In 1882, a British judge of the Madras High Court used the name Thrikkadeeri instead of Thrikkoduveli in a written verdict for a legal case concerning the Devaswom. Over time, Thrikkadeeri gained widespread currency, eventually becoming the official name for the territory under the Devaswom. However, ancient records associated with the Munnurthi Temple still bear the original name, Thrikkoduveli. The temple houses centuries-old mural paintings and ancient historical artifacts.
